yewbranch the basics full name • yewbranch nicknames • yew, yewy name reasoning • 'yew' for her sweet, berry-like appearance (see history) and 'branch' for her previously timid nature developing into a quiet confidence age • 21 moons clan • stormclan rank • warrior gender • she-cat sexuality • bisexual the appearance face claim • cedmitch26 height and weight • 9 inch & 12 lbs identifying features • stark blue eyes; two black spots on nose first glace • a snowshoe she-cat with dark blue eyes overall appearance • yewbranch has always been a smaller cat. her legs are shorter than average, making her not quite the right height but, in her opinion, close enough. her fur is short but soft, giving her a rounder and gentle appearance. while most of her body is covered in snow-white fur, she has a helmet of black and dark brown covering half of her face and drawing upwards towards her forehead, creating a sort of v-shaped blaze reaching the center of her nose. speaking of, her pink nose has two unique black spots: one streak covers her nose, and a rounder patch is towards her mouth on the same side. the color scheme of black and brown reaches down the back of her neck and breaks off into splotches on her back and upper sides, finally reuniting to cover her tail until its white tail tip. finally -- and perhaps most predominately -- is her dark, sapphire eyes. the personality likes • babysitting kittens, sunrises, spending time with friends & family dislikes • violence, arguments strengths • hunting & tracking, caretaking weaknesses • fighting dreams • finding a greater purpose, having a family fears • feeling lost in life, losing more friends & family that she loves overall personality • once a nervous and timid kitten, yewbranch has notably grown. she now holds herself with control and calmness. a steady paw in the face of uncertainty, she speaks simple words of wisdom and kindness. with her friends, family, and the kittens she likes to watch, she is a playful she-cat with more than enough affection to give around. she's known around her clan for having a soft touch -- a gentleness that ensures even the lowest of prey is treated with respect (after she hunts it, of course...). this sweet nature has molded yewbranch into an empathetic cat. she fears violence and tends to feel the pain of others very strongly. inwardly, she truly wishes the fighting would stop so her clan -- and even thornclan -- wouldn't have to suffer any longer. but of course, with these admirable traits comes her downfalls. absent-minded, yewbranch often drifts into the clouds instead of focusing on speeches or conversations. she doesn't mean to space out so easily, but she can't help but enjoy her surroundings. embarrassment is a common emotion for her to feel as a cat has to call her name a few times to bring her back to reality. recently, with the death of her father still looming in her heart, she feels a sort of aimlessness. yew often wonders if this, being a warrior, is her destiny. she does like the simple things in life, but her father and her mentor were/are great leaders. as much as she has tried to be strong, she's rather confident in her inability to make decisions that may harm other cats. and although she is wise and calm, her heart couldn't handle it all. so, helping pearstar in any way possible (other than causing harm) is something she fixates on. well, really, she fixates on anything she can to try and seem more useful than just a cat with her head in the clouds. she often watches over kittens for tired queens, or tries to help gather herbs with the medicine cat. still being a younger warrior, yewbranch has time to find herself. though, she wishes her father were here to help her with that. the history father • sunstar (deceased) mother • dovefeather (alive, snowshoe she-cat, npc) siblings • cedarstone (sister, adopt) important people • pearfrost (former mentor, played by sov) overall history • sunstar was not expecting kittens. how could he? he was a leader, busy with managing his clan and a war. his longtime mate, dovefeather, had suffered many miscarriages throughout their time together, and the two eventually came to accept that their family would not grow. so, when dovefeather explained that he would, in fact, be a father, there was a strong sense of joy and fear in his heart. fighting was so common now, he wasn't sure if bringing kittens into the world would be safe. and dovefeather had already suffered so much, what if these kittens were met with the same fate as the other unborn litters had before? or, what if he lost his mate completely from a difficult birth? these thoughts swirled in his head, but it made him work harder than before. he had to protect his family. thankfully, all of these thoughts were put to an end within a few moons. dovefeather had gone through a difficult birth, but she made it through with two little daughters. the first, sunstar named yew. she was round and gentle looking -- it reminded him of a berry. but, he also knew that there was more to her than meets the eye. yew trees have unassuming berries that are actually poisonous. even if it didn't seem like it, he knew his first daughter had strength hiding within her. his second daughter was named by dovefeather: cedar. she, although younger, was larger and frisky. yewkit had a lovely kithood... for the most part. she and her sister would spend their days playing together. cedarkit was often rough and unapologetic with the other kits, but was gentle and protective of her 'little' (but older) sister. yewkit loved her mother, but had a strong relationship with her father. as a shy little kitten, yew often followed him around camp and felt protected by his large shadow. she felt safe with him. but, there are many memories that taint yew's recollection of her youth. filled with bodies being dragged into camp, clawed and bitten and mangled. the whole clan holding a vigil of sadness for warriors who died. and many warriors faced terrible injuries, but had to live through them. when yewkit asked her father why her clanmates were hurt all of the time, he gently explained to her that there was a fight going on. and it wouldn't stop. yewkit found this confusing, but she didn't ask anymore questions. she just knew it was wrong. no cat deserved to suffer so much. a few moons passed and yewkit became yewpaw along with cedarpaw. yew was given pearfrost as a mentor -- who, by the way, also happened to be the deputy and her father's former apprentice. pearfrost scared her. she was mean. and yewpaw didn't want to fight. she didn't want to hurt anyone. so she often cowered instead of swiped, or flinched instead of defending herself. but, thankfully, pearfrost learned patience, and was able to make yew more confident and helped her learn the skills she needed to survive. a relationship of trust and respect formed between the two as a result. during their apprenticeship, the two sisters remained close. but, yewpaw was often disturbed by how much cedarpaw enjoyed fighting. she sometimes tried to speak of it, but afraid of arguing with cedarpaw, yewpaw usually left the subject alone. and seeing how it bothered her so much, cedarpaw also tried not to discuss her love of training. finally, their father named them warriors. yewpaw to yewbranch and cedarpaw to cedarstone. the joy of becoming new warriors was, however, swiftly interrupted. yewbranch and cedarstone and a few more warriors of stormclan were battling again thornclan. yew wasn't a great fighter, but had to do her duty to her clan. plus, cedarstone stayed next to her and never left her side. they fought as a team. as the battle came to an end, it appeared as though neither side had gained or lost anything. but, within a few moments, wails of grief came from the sisters. their father was laying on his side and wasn't getting up. sitting vigil for their father was a painful process. the grief lasted for a long time, but it did bring the sisters closer together. yewbranch, with her logic and calmness, was able to have conversations with her sister regarding the battles and how unnecessary they were. cedarstone, missing her father dreadfully, took the time to listen to a new perspective. pearfrost then became pearstar. it was strange for yew to see her icy mentor leading the clan her father had, but yew did her best to help in any way while also attempting to talk pear out of more fighting. she knows it's what sunstar would have wanted. the role player alias • short pronouns • she/her code • tracker. plotter, wanted ads other characters • stoneheart adopted from • sov |
