GENERAL
Respect
Be respectful, kind, and accepting. We strive to foster a friendly and welcoming environment at The Boreal, so the golden rule of treating others as you wish to be treated should be in effect at all times.
PG-13
We maintain a PG-13 rating, so be aware that while some of the site's content may not be appropriate for younger audiences, any explicit content should be avoided. Swearing is permitted in moderation, but, as with all things, use your best judgement.
One account per person
We ask that each individual have only one account rather than a separate account for each character.
Activity
Real life comes first, but as a matter of respect to your fellow members, we ask that you try to stay relatively active on the site. There is no strict post requirement, but make sure to check in during monthly activity checks to ensure that your characters are not archived. There are slightly more specific requirements for high ranking characters, so if you are filling such a position, make sure to be aware of those requirements. If you are going to be away for any significant amount of time (eg. missing an activity check), you can let staff know and/or post in the Hiatus board to keep your characters from being archived in the meantime.
Warnings
If any staff find that a member has violated site rules, that member will receive a warning in the form of a PM. Any further misconduct will be dealt with at the staff's discretion.
CHARACTERS
Character Limit
The character limit currently stands at 6 characters per person. If you are interested in adding additional characters, you can get in contact with a staff member who will assess how well you are keeping up with your current roster.
High Ranks
You are allowed one high ranking character, which contributes to your total limit of six (so you can have a total of five regular characters and one high ranking one). To claim a high rank, you must audition and have an open character slot.
Realism
Characters should not have unrealistic or impossible features (eg. blue fur, red eyes, etc.) Likewise, both their physical and personal attributes should be reasonably realistic. In terms of personality, they should have a relatively equal balance of positive and negative traits.
Naming Conventions
Clan cats should adhere to established naming conventions, i.e. names with a prefix and suffix related to natural phenomenons that can be perceived/understood by cats. Human tools or concepts should not be included in clan names, although they can be utilized for loners, rogues, and kittypets within reason. Additionally, clan names should refrain from using "sun", "star", or "moon" as either prefixes or suffixes (with the exception of clan leaders).
Aging
Characters will age at the rate of approximately a moon a month. Kits will age at two moons per month until they reach apprenticehood.
Queens & Kits
Queens should have established mates and kits established litters and families. Make sure to plan these out in advance, and get in touch with a staff member to establish a queen without a mate.
ROLEPLAY
Powerplaying
Refrain from Godmodding/Powerplay, i.e. having your character be unreasonably powerful or controlling others' characters. In threads that involve competition or battle, you can either decide the outcome among yourselves or use dice-rolling to determine the outcome.
Explicit Content
Considering The Boreal's PG-13 rating, we do not accept explicit mating, overly graphic descriptions of violence, or other mature topics.
Plot Restrictions
Unless taking part in a site-wide event, we ask that characters refrain from receiving prophecies from StarClan without explicit staff permission. Other unique plot points (eg. forbidden romance) do not as of yet have any restrictions on them but should be used sparingly, and remember that any actions, especially those that break the Warrior Code, are likely to have repercussions.
Word Count
We have a minimum word count of ~150. What this means is that at least 150 words per post is preferred, but slightly under is acceptable on occasion, as long as it does not become a habit. Be considerate of the time others spend on their posts, and make sure all participants have something to work off of.
Grammar & Spelling
We expect proper grammar and spelling in posts. Please refrain from chatspeak.
Liquid Time
Although the site moves at about the pace of one moon per real life month, threads posted during a certain month can take place anywhere within that time-frame, and a single character can participate in multiple threads at a time under the assumption that the threads are all occurring at different times within that month. You can finish a thread started in one month after the next month has begun without changing the time frame, but try to refrain from dragging threads out across too long a timespan to avoid any mix-ups.
Completing Threads
Once you have finished a thread, one of the participants can post in the completed threads Discord channel or reply to the Completed Threads post in the directory.
CHAT & DISCORD
No spamming
We ask that you refrain from excessive posting in either the chatbox or the Discord server.
No advertising
The chat areas are not for advertisements. If you have an ad to share, please use the advertising boards.
Swearing
Although swearing is allowed in moderation, we request that it be confined to the Discord server and kept out of the general chatbox.
MISC.
Post in Correct Boards
Please make sure to post threads in the correct boards, whether that be threading a StormClan character within the StormClan camp or making an affiliate request in the proper advertising board.
Please include credits to all and any images or artwork you use.
